My name is Mike Gomez and I am thrilled to join the Lincoln Lions as the new director of bands. For the past 8 years I taught at Overfelt High School in the East Side District and for one year before that I was at Burnett Middle School here in San Jose. I received by B.A. and credential from San Jose State University where I studied tuba with Tony Clements and conducting with Dr. Ed Harris. At SJSU I was in the wind ensemble, orchestra, pep band, Spartan Marching Band and brass ensemble. I’m currently a Masters of Music candidate at the American Band College of Sam Houston State University.
I have found it beneficial to send home a monthly newsletter outlining the activities for that month. This will serve as the first Band Notes from the director. While I am mailing this first edition home, the rest of the year the Band Notes will be found on the band website: lincolnbandsj.org. If you would prefer to receive them by regular mail, please e-mail me (email@example.com) or return the bottom of this letter.
Syllabus: You should have been given the Band Handbook by your student. Please read it and sign the last page. This will also serve as the field trip permission slip for the year
Pep Band: if your student is in the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, or Concert Band they are also in the Pep Band and are expected to perform for home football games and other campus activities. Our uniform this year is the Rugby shirt (same as last year) and Khakis. You may wear the Khakis from last year or get your Khakis. Black shoes of any kind. Your student was given an order form if one is needed.
Indoor Ensemble uniforms: In a few weeks the students will be fitted for their tuxedo/dresses. These will be worn for all formal concerts. The formal ware donation is $50-$95.
Instrument check-out: If your child needs an instrument they have already been assigned one. Before your child can take it home they need to return contract for each instrument.
Instrument usage donation: Please remember that a $50 donation is needed for each student who uses a school instrument. This can be paid by check to Lincoln High School or can be fundraised.

LHS Music Boosters: This organization is vital to the success of the LHS bands, choirs and orchestras. The first meeting is Thursday September 8th. 7:00pm.
Disney Trip/So Cal trip: The bands will join the choir and orchestra to Southern California and Disneyland during the February break. A $100 deposit will be due Friday September 30th. The cost is approximately $600. More information will be coming.
First Music Department Fundraiser: Sunday September 25th from 10:00am- 5:00pm in the LHS Gym. Custom Fundraising Solutions will be setting a show room of name-brand and popular mattresses. We do not need to actually sell them, the company will take care of that. We just need to advertise! More information will be given at the first music booster meeting on Thursday Sept 8th.
